Parish Council
In his Apostolic Exhortation, Christifideles Laici, Pope John Paul II identified and encouraged the formation of pastoral councils. “Members of the pastoral council collaborate with the pastor in the building up of the Church and its sanctification.” (Lumen Gentium No. 32c, 33a). The role of the pastoral council is to bring concerns that affect the whole parish to the attention of the pastor. The first thing a council must do is pray that with the grace of God they may discern the voice of the Holy Spirit and try to be one with Christ to acknowledge his presence in their midst. The members of the council represent the parish ministries and organizations.
